Roads have been built in Britain since Roman times in order to boost commerce and freedom.
The background image is of the A82 on Rannock Moor in Scotland; before roads a trip across here would have taken you at least 15 times as long, and you’d have got very wet and muddy.
There have been many improvements in construction techniques over the centuries.
Yet in recent decades absurd restrictions have been imposed to impede trafic:
Bus lanes that are little used most of the time; cycle lanes that are vastly underused, even ignored completely; petty speed limits that are about control, not road safety; speed humps that damage vehicles; through-roads deliberately and maliciously obstructed by arrogant politicians….
