The new Home Secretary, David Blunkett, declared war on drug pushers and violent criminals immediately on taking office.
ABD Chairman, Brian Gregory, commented
"A war on drugs and violent crime is good news for all of us, and if it means that the Police will end their war against Britain's drivers then that is even better. We hope that the Police will now concentrate their efforts on traffickers, not traffic, and people selling 'speed', not travelling at speed."
The ABD's spokesman Nigel Humphries said
"The appointment of Stephen Byers as Secretary of State at the new Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions, in place of John 'Two-Jags' Prescott, is encouraging. Mr Byers worked hard to save the Rover Group when BMW tried to close it. We hope that his enthusiasm for cars will lead the Government to end the persecution of those who drive them."
